Ronald Reagan's Model 29

I have seen 2 Presidents in my life. Dwight Eisenhower in 1955 on his way to the Citadel in Charleston and Ronald Raegan when he came to Augusta for the Masters in 1983... Both great men and Great Americans. It would be Greater still to see another before my days end

I remember the Reagan gun on a personal level. Russ Smith and myself did the engraving. I also have this photo framed in my shop. I could tell you some interesting factoids about this gun.

I also have my original sketches for this project. The President loved this gun.

Now that's what I call a "magnum opus".

When the Gipper had a breathing tube removed following surgery to remove Hinckley's bullet (I don't think he'd been able to speak while it was in), his first words were "what was that guys beef?".

He reportedly scribbled one-liners to the nurses (while conscious) throughout the ordeal.

I doubt we'll ever see another Commander in Chief with with that kind of courage.

I wonder, will S&W make such a gun for our current "leader"?

I don't post this as a polititical issue, I'm truly curious how this works.

One has to wonder at the response to such a gift from S&W these days.

A 30 year old Ravens Arm .25 would be fitting.

100 miles and 5 years from WY...no sir!!

Russ Smith is my husband's uncle!

In bragging on Russ Smith's work on Ronald Reagan's revolver to the kids at the school I work for, we looked up his gun and I followed the links to this forum. It's nice to see that Uncle Russ has been given credit for the engraving. Uncle Russ is my husband's uncle. He gave our boys a copy of the photo with the gun laying on the blue background.

I saw the M29 (below) during my visit to the museum last week.

Ronald Reagan was a great president and a great American. He was the first president I voted for after turning 18 in 1977. If a visit to this museum doesn't fill your soul with American pride, nothing will. Everyone should go.

Makes it easy to forget that whole "Iran Contra" thingy. Even great men, are flawed.

They address that in the museum. He didn't know about it. It was his underlings acting independently. But he took ownership of it because he was the man at the top.

If you think they were whitewashing it, I went to the Nixon library the next day. The handling of Watergate was brutal. It was clear that Nixon knew about everything except the actual break-in, before the break-in happened. But he established the culture amongst his people, and was involved in the coverup.

Sorry to take the thread in a direction it's not supposed to go, but your comment needed to be addressed.
