Couple weeks ago snagged a new, to me, 17-3 off GB for $630.00. Don't like plastic stocks so bought some Altamont ropers I found on eBay. SUPER happy with the way this turned out. Can't wait to get to the range.

Those must be the Altamont Roper-style grips. I have a set myself.

Can't believe the "Out of Stock" on accessories. Would like a couple more of these Altamont roper style grips

Congrats to the OP on the classy target stocks. K-Frame targets I like. My hand just can't accommodate N-Frame targets.

Forum member sold me these gems for my late Dad's '48 K22. Definitely improves my shooting.

Nice looking gun. My own 17-3 came with magna grips when I bought it a number of years ago. Not too long ago I purchased a beautiful pair of period S & W Target grips that not only look real good but fit my hand quite well also.

My 17-2 came with these non-relieved, original S&W diamond targets. I installed a set of Pachmayr Presentations as shooting stocks to preserve the S&W's since I believe they are valuable on their own.
Hey Chief
You are correct about the grips! Those are non-relieved targets! That is, target grips with out the ejection relief cut(foot ball cutout, thumb rest, etc). These were the first target grips brought out by S&W

Thanks Nuke! I've heard these stocks came out in the 40's. Mine are not serial number marked so I don't know when or where they came from.

The target style grip was introduced in 1950 for the K frame. The target grips were not numbered to the gun as they cover the frame all the way around so there is no need for "fitting" to the frame.
