I just picked up this modified 1917 S&W for a very good price, buying it primarily for the grips. I'll probably "harvest" the grips, shoot the gun a bit and then just sell it off. I should not be spending money this close to Tulsa, but Ropers don't come along everyday either.

Nice snag.Better to go with the bird in the hand-who knows what may or may not be in Tulsa.
 
They don't belong on that gun. Try them on a K-frame. The fit problem is obvious. Even looks at the top as if these were originally maybe made for a Colt. ?? Odd...

Thanks. Good point. I'll try them on a K frame as soon as I get the gun
 
If they were made for a Colt I think they would have had to be modified at the top interior to fit the differently shaped frame cutout on a S&W.

Yeah, that's what's bothering me, too. But they not only don't look right at the top; they don't fit this gun along the backstrap.
