Rosewood or GA.

Below is a set of known kframe rosewoods on the left, and on the right an N frame mystery set. I can't decide.

So, Rosie or GA on the right. ???

Based on the grain, I would say both are rosewood. Rosewood varies from very dark to chocolate brown with or without dark figure in the wood.

My guess would be that the black washered Stocks are Bahia. The silver, Cocobolo.

Technically, both species are considered "Rosewood".

Both rosewood is what I say too. I promise that was going to be my answer before reading what Mr. Cross had to say. :)

well....whatever they are they are Beautiful.....I'll take 'em :D Let me know where to send the check!

Well now that I have the sum total collective S&W expertise on grips, stocks, Rosewood and other woods; I will tell you the story.

Saw these on ebay with 5 hrs to go. Although there is some wood missing on the bottom right edge, I like the color and shape so put an $85 max bid out there. Bidding ended at $60.
Fine, I save $25 and I probably over bid anyway.

I get an email from the seller.... I swear this is true ....
"you bid too much. the grips are only worth $40. If you want to keep them, I'll send you $20 back." and he did.

Nice to run into a seller like that, in a world full of money-grubbing slobs. :D

I don't know about screaming or even whispering, but looking at the "frame side view" they sure look like the same kind of wood.

BTW; this is what Brazilian rosewood looks like; banned from importation quite a while back. The grips are custom Herrett Trooper.

Lastly I found a chunk of wood that someone can whittle down but that will have to wait

Top Left, N Frame Rosewood, bottom right, N Frame figured Rosewood. Both have the distinctive long, vertical pores in the grain. The others are Goncalo Alves.
