It's once again time to celebrate the (arrival) of the UFO in Roswell.
The supposed crash was 60 miles N of there, but let's not quibble on the data!
They are expecting 50,000 folks.
I mistakenly stopped down there during the festival a few heads ago.
There were enough Germans there to organize a Panzer Division!
Apparently the Germans really dig the Roswell/UFO thing!
These small remote towns have to go with what they got.
After all, Deming's big event is a Duck Race.
That's harder to explain than the Roswell UFO Festival!

Don't really understand the attraction to Roswell...no aliens there for over 70 years...they moved to the dark side of the moon in mass....others are drinking Corona in Antarctica and at the bottom of the oceans...

We weren't there for a festival but my German friend seemed to enjoy it. :D

Roswell...I remember when it was an active B52 base...and the 52s would do an approach from the east..low enough to see helmets....hound dogs hanging from the wings....

The Germans are probably family of the Luftwaffe pilots being trained in Alamogordo. Not really much else to see in that part of NM.

Probably right! But I gotta say that there is a LOT of stuff to see in SENM. It all looks mostly the same, but there sure is a lot of it. But if you'll wait for sundown, you will usually be rewarded nicely. With a few clouds and the ever present dust in the air, we were treated to a great many beautiful sunsets. Got to where we took them for granted since they were expected.

Spent several years in the Alamogordo/Holloman AFB area later on. Since I love the high desert and desert mountains on either side of that Tularosa Basin, and since I was already used to the (dry!) heat, I was happy there. That first photo I posted in the Black and White in color thread was taken between the White Sands Monument and the White Sands Missile Range on the east side of the Organ Mountains. Came back to the east side of the State in about 76 and lived there 40 years. Sure saw a lot of those beautiful sunsets!!!

I am certainly not knocking that part of New Mexico. I love the high desert too. We actually have property in Ruidoso. We bought it with the intention of moving there some day. I really like that area.

It happened. Covered up by government. In my 71 years, I have
seen enough and talked to enough people with first hand information
to make me a believer.

I agree. Other UFO info is also sometimes valid. I saw a UFO once, over Newfoundland. We sent F-106's down from Goose Bay to catch it, but it took off faster than any aircraft could go and easily evaded those Mach 2 jets.

I lived / worked around Roswell for 10 yrs . I became acquainted with a former deputy . Told me one night a bunch of people living near the pecos river and the game preserve had called in reporting what they thought to be some kind of airplane crash in their area .
He said that he and another deputy were only about 5 min's drive away so they went there . Driving into the area they were met by a group of men armed to the teeth that stopped them and told them they weren't not needed . He explained about the phone calls and said they needed to ck it out . The men told them again they were NOT needed and pointed their weapons at the 2 officers . They left . There was not any mention of the incident in the local paper or the local tv stations.

At one time, maybe not today, Lufthansa did pilot training at the old Roswell (Walker) air force base. I used to see Lufthansa aircraft on the ground there. My son went to the New Mexico Military Institute in Roswell, so I have been there many times.
