I just bought a SW MP Shield in 9mm on Sunday. On doing my initial clean I noticed that when pulling the slide back the it catches and sticks when all most all the way back. I have narrowed it down the the recoil spring. I tried to attach a pick. I to give you an idea if you pull the slide back the notch for the slide lock lines up with the slide lock release. Is this something that will wear in after a few hundred rounds.

The second pic is when I feel the slide catch. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Dave

I have two OEM recoil springs for my 9mm Shield. One that came with the gun, which has approx 300 rounds of use, and a new, spare OEM one. They both have the exact hitch or catch that you describe. The gun seems to work normally, and I haven't had any malfunctions. Not sure of the cause.

Thanks Armorer951 for the reply, only the one catches, the one in fiancee gun does not catch at all and that is why I was concerned. I think I'll contact customer support at S&W and see what they have to say.

More defective assemblies it seems.....I'm not surprised. The slide should go further to the rear, not just back far enough to barely catch the notch.

I don't think he said it stopped there, he said that's where he feels like it's catching or rubbing the guide rod.

It looks like you have a defective recoil spring assembly (RSA). The inner (small) guide rod should not be protruding from the front of the RSA as your photo shows. This likely means that your front spring retainer disc is about to fail. That will cause the large spring to fly off the guide rod, soon. You will not be able to fix it. Call S&W asap, and get in line for a new RSA.

I've attached a photo of a good RSA for comparison.

Good luck!
