Just heard a few days ago. Not much out there on his passing, but he was one ("the," might be more accurate — he was that good) of the greatest custom handgun grip/stock makers ever.

RIP, Mr. Fishpaw. You awed a lot of us with your artistry.

Prayers for his family.

In his chosen field, custom handguns, he was a great man. We are diminished.

I originally posted this on the Colt Forum when I read the news there, but a member who was raised differently than I spoke ill of the dead before the body was cold. But, that's the internet. He had an unsatisfactory experience and wrote about it, which he certainly has the right to do. :(

88, that's a good run. Not many of us can say we made a living doing something we loved, and that made others happy. In my opinion, he was the best.

For those not familiar with Mr. Fishpaw, he would only fit grips to the gun when he had it in hand. And by golly they fit only that gun. When I gave this model 18 S&W away, I tried these grips (which I kept when I gave away the gun, I'm not that nice) he had made on a dozen other K-frames from different decades - didn't fit any of them. Had to send them back to him with a different S&W K-frame to have them re-fitted.

Thank you for posting his obituary. I did not know that he was a fellow Navy warrant officer, although we interacted personally when he made grips for my N-frame [custom] round butt. My wife also seemed to relate very well to his wife.

I have good memories of him, and his grips are still the best I have.
