Royal was born November 2, 1897. Russ Eubanks, Royal's
grandson says Royal was born November 2, 1896, but the 1910
census recorded Royal as a child of 12, so I tend to believe 1897
is the correct year. He was living in the home of his grandfather
Marcus D. Wood in Centralia, Washington.
Royal passed away April 25, 1955. He is buried in Cloverdale
Memorial Park in Boise. His grandfather Marcus was a harness
maker with a shop in Centralia, Washington, so it's easy to see
where Royal's interest and skill at leather work came from.
August 27, 1921 Royal married Bertha Reed. They had
one child. A daughter Jean. In 1937 Royal was working in
the mines in Silver City, Idaho. He met Mary Eleanor Latimore,
who became his second wife. They had two sons, James O. and
Thomas R. Russ, mentioned previously was a son of James.
Royal toyed with the idea of a holster business in 1937 and
1938, and finally started Eubanks Leather in 1939 in Boise in
1939. The war years 1941-1945 were kinda tough going for
Royal, but after the war the business prospered and he had up
to a dozen employees. Some of my holsters, and the Eubanks
maker's mark, made between 1939 and 1949 are shown below,
left to right:
Basket weave stamped and laced made for 4" M&P.
Floral carved and laced black holster also for 4" M&P.
Carved and laced cordovan double loop made for 7.5" SAA.
