Decided to install a bipod on my 10/22 for target shooting so I picked up a Caldwell XLA 6-9" bipod and 2" picatiny rail from Amazon and got it done today in a couple hours. I had to shape the bottom of the rail with a file to match the synthetic stock and got some 10-24x3/4" machine screws and nylok nuts to secure it after drilling 3/16" holes in the fore end. I am happy with the results and the bipod is very secure to the rifle.

My 10/22 is a 1974 Deluxe model it came with sling studs. A Harris or Caldwell bipod just "hook" right in.

When I wanted a bipod on my AR-10 that has a Key-Lock fore end, rather than install a few dollar picatinny rail. I ran a sling stud through the narrow part of a Keyhole. Cost 35 cents and I already have 3 or 4 bipods that fit. Harris makes a several dollar adapter for standard 2 piece AR stocks, it works OK, but there is nothing like doing it your way!
