Ruger 10/22 Short Barrel Rifle

I called the ATF today to get a few fingerprint cards for a form 1 to put a short barrel on a 10/22.

I'm wondering how short I can go and it still be dependable. One company sells a 4.5" barrel, but claims it may be ammo specific, and you might have to change out a couple springs.

I'd like to go with a 6" barrel...I know it may be useless, but it will be cool, and I really like stuff that's CooL!

With a 16" barrel it's never jammed one time using CCI subs and SV ammo.

I'm wanting to end up with something similar to this. Except my receiver is silver and my stock is black.

I don't have any actual experience to give but i Have Been seriously considering Sbr'ing a Ruger 10/22 or Ruger American Rimfire specifically as a host gun for a Suppressor. I can say that my Ruger MK IV pistol has so far had improved Reliability having a Suppressor Attached. Something like the picture you posted would be a fun gun.

Would make a great sentry removal type gun.

The Israelis have used suppressed 10/22s for years for crowd controls and border guard work. They use them to shoot rioters in the kneecaps.

You could have done a folding brace on a 10/22 charger and skipped the paper work for the firearm at least !!

My question as well. This is a blow back action that's driven by the "push" of the cartridge case. I know that sometimes suppressors affect the reliability of a blow back action, but I believe that's because of low power subsonic ammo, not due to the barrel length.

The guts of the Charger are the same and it seems to work fine. I do not know about suppressed however.
A simple spring change maybe all that is needed. The folks on RFC certainly would know.

I read somewhere if you go too short it wont allow enough power to push the bolt back?

I've heard of a lot of people having feeding issues using sub sonic ammo in 10/22's. I have 2 now, and had a 3rd one. None ever missed a beat using subs suppressed and not.

I'm thinking a 6" barrel would probably work fine.

I had no idea they discontinued making those. I've had 4 or 5 over the years. I thought I bought the one I have now, maybe a year or so ago.

Kinda makes me hate chopping the end off it now.
