I currently hog hunt with a T/C Venture 30-06 with a Nikon 3X9-50 Monarch scope. Great hog gun and great scope. Especially in low light to bright day time hunting.
We often hunt in elevated blinds after dark with only feeder lights for illumination. Very dim lighting.
While sitting there contemplating the fact that my cross hair disappears when sighting under the feeder (I have shot several hog this way) I realized I need a lighted reticle scope and a shorter rifle to maneuver in the tight confines of the blind without banging on the sides.
I don't want to spend the $2,000.00 + on a Trigicon scope so I did some on line research and came up with the Ruger American Compact in 308 with a leupold VX-R lighted Firedot scope. The whole rig for about $800.00 to $900.00 dollars.
Does anyone have a opinion about this rifle and scope combination?
Thanks!

You did not mention the barrel length on your T\C. Before you buy a new rifle check with your local gunsmith about shortening the barrel.
The Leupold Firedot is what Santa got me last Christmas.
Now far be it for me to stop you from getting a new rifle and the Ruger is a fine choice.

My T/C Venture has a 24" barrel. I really like the Venture/Nikon combination but I want a rifle that is easier to maneuver in a blind and a night time, hog killing, scope with a lighted reticle.
How do you like the Leupold scope?

I know nothing about this combo, but the Ruger American is a decent gun for the money.

And btw. they come with 18" barrel (6907) and the Predator line comes even threaded and suppressor ready (6974), but a tad more expensive.
