In an earlier post I was asking for info on an Old Model 3 screw Blackhawk that I had looked at .
I went ahead and made the purchase . Its an Old Model 3 screw Blackhawk in .357 Magnum and a 6.5 inch barrel and it was made in 1968 . The gun is in excellent condition with only a barely visible turn line on the cylinder . Other than that it shows no real signs of use.

It has not had the transfer bar conversion and you are rewarded with 4 distinct clicks as you thumb back the hammer.
The original grips have been replaced with some pretty nice Herretts and there was no box or paperwork included.

It was listed at $599 at Cabelas here in Pennsylvania . I offered $549 and they accepted . I also had a $100 gift card and they offered another $20 off the purchase if I opened a credit card account .

I have had my eyes open for one of these for a few years and figured this was probably as good a deal as I was likely to get.

I haven't had the chance to shoot it yet but I'm not expecting any surprises and I'm very pleased with the purchase.

Thanks to all who took the time to offer up their advice and experience with this model in my previous post .

Congratulations! Excellent price. I too am searching for a 3 screw Blackhawk with no transfer bar, preferably a flattop. I will keep my eyes peeled at the next Tulsa gun show.

Years ago, I owned one. For what ever reason, I couldn’t shoot it well enough for it to be interesting.

I didn’t like it and traded it for a Colt Python. The Python was a much better gun but I eventually traded it for my first 1911; a Colt Gold Cup.

For me, the 1911 platform turned out to be much superior to any revolver.

I gotta get out in the sunlite more.
I had no idea those Ruger BH 357 3sc guns were going for that $$.

See what happens when you don't pay attention..

Congrats on your new Revolver.!!!

I've owned Ruger SA revolver since 1967. All have been excellent quality and I never had a problem with their trigger pull. I also own a Ruger Redhawk 44 mag with 8 inch barrel and Leopold 2x scope. It's a heavy booger but shoots great. I'm looking now for a Ruger SA OM in 30 carbine. I had one years ago but want another one.

If you find a 9MM cylinder for it you will really be happy.

My Glocks and my Sig P210 will be fed 9mm rounds . My Ruger Blackhawk will receive a steady diet of .357 magnum . Perhaps in a pinch some .38 Special ...but 9MM ?? . It just seems unnatural !

From what I've seen while looking the past few years the Old Model 3 screw Blackhawks are bringing $700-$900 if in very nice original , unconverted condition . Certain calibers and configurations can add even more $$ to the price.

The idea of a convertible Blackhawk with .357 & 9mm cyls seems like a good idea but the reality wasn't so great for me. Bought a new model 4 5/8", large frame, not the new smaller frame, at a gun show several years ago. Point of impact is different between the two calibers and my gun consistently punctured the primers of 9mm ammo. Sent it on down the road rather quickly.

Back in my reloading days my OM Blackhawk Convertible shot all those 9MMlead bullet reloads my M639 and M659 didn't care for, and shot them very well.

My shortest time owned revolver was a Blackhawk .30 cal carbine. Just for fun I picked it up at the local gun show. {never shot a .30 Carbine}
Got it in ANIB the box for $360. Walked a few rows with it and a guy kept bugging me to sell it to him. Kept turning him down. So bottom line is that I sold it and made a $80 profit! I don't even load .30! We were both happy! Bob

I bought my 3 screw Blackhawk in 1970 and it is my favorite 357 magnum also has the 6 1/2" bbl . .
I like the old model action so it's not converted .
Both of us have traveled a lot of shooting miles now and look a little older and worn , but still shooting after 50+ years .
If you reload , I have worked up some favorite handloads with cast bullets over the years ., glad to share

You did well on your deal ... don't let her be a "safe Queen"
shooting is much more fun than looking at and if like mine ...
She's a shooter !
Congratulations on your find.
Gary
