Ruger Curiosity?

I'm fortunate to have the Father in Laws 6 inch blue, a super slick 4 inch stainless with Millet sights that belonged to my gunsmith buddy and a recently acquired speed six 2.75 inch. My buddy did trigger work on the 6 inch and speed six. All three are fantastic guns. Yes, not a Smith but ….

I bought a service six from a friend of my brothers a number of years back. It had been so neglected that the action didn't work. I wasn't sure I could fix it so bought it for parts money. Well was I wrong, took it home, took it apart, and cleaned everything. Wow, it was a great shooter, nice action and like new. I really liked it and when my daughter was given a choice of what she wanted for a Christmas present she picked it over other guns I had. Along with lifetime supply of free reloaded ammo of course lol.

I've got about a dozen Rugers, all Blackhawks and Single sixes. They range from .22 LR to .45 Colt/.45 acp combo guns. I have two of the Singles Sixes in .32 H&R, plus a Blackhawk with a 9x23 Winchester cylinder. Good guns.

Hope this helps.

Fred

Ruger Security Sixes are far from "unpopular" or "inexpensive." I've had many over 50+ years of collecting in all finishes, calibers, and barrel lengths. They are solid, dependable weapons that will give years of trouble free service. Put one up against say a Colt Python .357 and start shooting .357 rounds and see which one shoots loose very quickly! They have never been as smooth in the action as a Smith or Colt, but they have never failed to give good service after many thousands of rounds thru them. And they are fairly accurate also. I am curious as to what your 3 digit number is? Seems like only a few years ago, you could find a nice used one in excellent condition for $250-$300 but I don't see that nowadays.

In today's world, local shops seem to only stock Glocks because that's all the public sees and hears about. I have one Glock (G27, gen 3) and have zero plans for another. I also have a Security Six that sat in my locker more than 20 years unfired, a leftover from my kitchen table FFL days. I've fired it in recent years and she's one sweet wheel gun. My next gun will be a Security Six, 2.75", SS. When I have the bucks, I'll give whatever it takes to acquire it if it's in good condition. Also, I have Ruger Super Blackhawks in 44 Mag and 45 Long Colt plus the SR series: SR45, SR40, SR9, SR9C, SR40C. Ruger never made my dream gun, SR45C.

Oooops...forgot the 10/22 rifle and Mark V pistol and the 44Mag Carbine.

I have two GP100's and a collection of single actions of various calibers from 22LR to 44 mag and 45 Colt. Built like tanks. I had a Security Six but got talked out of it an a trade long ago. Not as pretty as Smiths or Colts, but very shootable and accurate. I can't hit an 18" plate at 135 yards, but at 100, usually. ;)

First post I hope I get it right and in the right place. Does any know anything about the Police Six. 1981 or 2 vintage
Haha, you did not get it right 😬 but we can help. 👍🏻

First, welcome.

Second, while you are on-topic (Ruger medium frame double action revolvers…) you will never get your best chance at help if you post in another conversation.

Better to get the assistance you seek is to start a NEW thread ask for help there.

Lastly… you have given us almost nothing to go on and it seems you don't really have a specific question.

Ruger made three models in this series. The medium frame adjustable sight revolver was called the Security Six. The fixed sight square butt was named the Police Service Six. The round butt frame fixed sight model was the Speed Six.

These revolvers ended production around 1985 I think, and were replaced in the lineup by the then-new Ruger GP-100.
