Ruger Old Model .45 Colt Value?

What would be the value on a 7.5" barrel example? App. 97% very slight muzzle rub on left hand tip of barrel, no other wear. Three screw, non-modified. Locks up tight. No box etc?
I have a chance of picking one up for $450. I feel that's a pretty good deal, just don't know enough about the older Rugers to feel comfortable with a decision.

I don't know exactly what they are bringing, but I would say that is a pretty good deal, especially if the gun is in good shape. The .45 Old Model is a little less common than other calibers because Ruger intro'd the .45 less than a year before they changed to the New Model. I've had mine since 1973. It got me started hunting with a handgun, and also reloading. I quickly settled on a 10 grain Unique/255 grain Keith SWC. It can be loaded hotter, but unless you are hunting Grizzly Bears, why? I have actually dropped back to 9 grains and a 250 grain flat nose bullet from GA Arms in recent years. That combo will hole a 150 lb GA whitetail deer through and through.

That's a good price for one of those. People had a tendency to experiment with max. .45 Colt loads in these so checkfor signs of that. Looseness, flame cut , or whatever you call that in the inside of the frame above the forcing cone. That would be a great gun to have as stated above.

I concur with the guys, I would be all over it at that price. The collectors value them at around $750 +/- in 95% condition.

Thanks all. I got by the shop today and put a hold payment on it. Here in SE Tenn we are being hit by a big time cold snap. This morning I started my truck and my power steering pump decided to lock up it's bearings, so I'm going to have to curtail my gun purchases untill that is taken care of.
As soon as I get it in hand I'll post pics.
BTW, this was a pawn shop find, I don't believe they knew what it was they had put out, sales folks didn't seem too excited about it anyway.

Here's mine, the short-barreled convertible (to .45 ACP) model in the original box with papers. I'd place a value on this package at around $800 today. They don't make 'em like this anymore, but I'm sure you've heard that before...
