A few weeks ago, during a discussion about the Ruger Redhawk, I mentioned that my LGS had one in 45 Colt that I sort of liked, but didn't want another cartridge to fool with, especially since 45 Colt ammo is pretty pricey. A couple of people told me that it might be cut for 45 ACP and moon-clips. I already load for 45 auto, and it's a lot less expensive than the "long stuff," anyway, so I went back and it was still there. And it is the 45 Colt/45 ACP model. Near new condition, with the box, papers, padlock, moon-clips, just like it left the factory I suppose.

It is a BIG, HEAVY gun. It could probably double as a canoe anchor. It's a good thing the only way it will ever be carried is in a range bag. The grips look small, and are for such a large gun, but are surprisingly comfortable in my hand. I don't know how they feel at the range, but hope to get there in the next couple of days to give it a try, work permitting.

I have one too. ACPs are mild shooting. It’s a heavy sucker but being it’s just a range gun I don’t care. I’d like to put a gold bead patridge front sight on mine if I could find one.

Nice handgun! I like it. I’ll bet it shoots great with ACPs. That gun deserves some nice leather, thanks for sharing.

You can also load 45 Winchester magnum brass about like you would load 45 Colt they will go right into the moon clips and will probably be more accurate than the ACP's out of that long cylinder. Just a thought-I have a 25-5 cut for moons, and that's what I shoot in it.

I bought one a few monthes back, primarily to shoot 45 LC’s, both standard pressure and “Ruger only” loads in. I have shot 45 acp loads in mine as well as my handloads in 45 win mag brass. A lot of 45 versatility in a big, heavy gun, that will last forever. I put Hogues on mine as well. Enjoy yours.
Good shooting.

Ruger used to make interchangeable front sights for the Redhawk. I don't see them on Ruger's website, but if you put a want ad on the Ruger forum, you might get lucky. IIRC, you could get a gold bead front sight and an Express wide V rear blade.

Well you could carry it unloaded and if a cop stopped you then you could say it is a hammer for defense.
That is a fine looking gun.
I was thinking about getting a revolver that could shoot 45 acp. I just don't like having to use moon clips. Charter Arms makes the Pitbull 45 acp that doesn't need moon clips. I just wonder how long till or if the spring loaded clips in the cylinder wear out?

I ended up buying the S&W 28-2 in the process so I guess a 45 acp revolver will have to wait.
I have a feeling you will be replacing those stock grips with some Hogues. Like the others said it will be much more enjoyable to shoot even though it is a heavy gun.
I am interested to know what shooting 45 acp feels like. Hand punisher or what with stock grips?
