Nice revolver and great photography! The Ruger medallion doesn't look factory - are the grips from Jaruwan (not sure of the spelling - they sell on that flea site)?

GeoJelly, Thanks for the complements and you're correct that the grips are not factory.

I'm not exactly sure who manufactured them but I suspect they're a combination of after market grips and added medallions.

I'm on the hunt for the real mccoy but in the meantime these one off's will have to do.

These are a set of the old Ruger factory targets. You can see a difference in the medallions. They are some of the best grips for a Security Six in my book.

I think the target grips are better on longer barreled guns. On these, I'd use the Ruger round butt grips and a Tyler adapter. The round butt guns were called Speed-Six and had fixed sights.

I think Sile actually made Ruger's target grips. They feel very good in the hand.

Very nice Security Sixes. I think the Target grips look good on the guns, maybe because they have adjustable sites.

Here is my 2 3/4" Speed Six with aftermarket grips (it's a 9mm):

Ruger never should have discontinued these guns...

I think your grips look just as good or better than Ruger Factory target grips since Ruger doesn't use a pretty wood like Goncalo Alves. I bought a set of Herrets Shooting Star grips for my 1979 Stainless 4" SS and like looks and feel better than the factory target grips.

Old Cop, Yeah it's a brick but surprisingly with a good belt and a loose shirt it's not so bad.

I switch around anywhere from my small Colt .380 Gov. Mod, S&W Mod 36, a couple of K Frames and a Glock 21 so I'm used to concealing some big guns.

What's your ideal CC EDC?

A few years ago, Ruger found a bunch of the security six target grips and sold them cheap. Even offering bulk discount deals, so there are a lot of NOS ones around. But yours are nice, I wouldn't bother looking for a new set.

It's a great gun, and a fine choice for an edc.

I bought my Dad one and gave it to him for being my best man. It had hideous plastic grips on it. That he swapped for imitiation ivory that he really liked. I took a picture with his pipe as a sort of tribute to him. I have both but haven't used either since he died. My preference would be for the factory small grips.

Nice gun and thanks for sharing all the background.

I bought a set when Ruger had them but sold them soon after. They were the plainest grain wood you ever saw. I had doubts they were walnut. The medallions were upside down too.

Ruger at one time offered Goncalo Alves target grips for the Six-series revolvers that were somewhat similar to S&W's stocks but every set I've handled suffered bad warping of the wood. I don't know if their supplier didn't season the wood properly or what but it's unfortunate because they were nice-looking grips.

As Texas Star noted, Sile supplies the newer grips as seen in the OP.

My first handgun was a Security Six about the same year...4".
I shot that gun better than any since.
Unfortunately it was stolen.
I don't know why I never replaced it either??
