Ruger Speed Six

I have wanted a Ruger Speed Six .357 in stainless steel for some time now. Found a 2 3/4 inch barrel one and was wondering who here has one? Ever thing I have heard about them is good. Have checked them out before at gun shops and the are a tank. Did Ruger ever make round butt Target grips? I know they made square butt grips for the Service and Security Models. Ant one ordered the rubber grips from Munrich that are listed with silver medallions? Are they Ruger medallions in them?

I've had this one for 20 years, it's been worked on a little to improve the trigger over stock. It's "beefier" than the 19-3 it's shown with and locks up like a bank vault.

I changed the wood stocks to a rubber grip that has the Ruger emblem in it. I think these are an E-bay purchase.
You'll appreciate the finger-grove rubber grips over the little wood stocks when you touch off 158gr full house 357's!
Go for the Speed-Six if you can find one, it's the workhorse 357 with fixed sights, a FAT cylinder and few little pieces & parts to break. You won't shoot this one loose!

When I was a lockheed guard we were issued that gun in 4". They do feel good with that grip. They replaced our old colt offical polices. Sometime later they gave us s&w 586s. All were available to me and most of the time I opted to stay with the old colts.
Really I cant say I shot them much. We had to qualify once a year and then every six months towards the end of my career. While I could use them, I almost always qualified with one of my own, usualy a old colt .357 trooper.
I did see a guard snap one closed after checking it while exchanging it to a relief guard and springing the crane to where it wouldnt close. I chewed butt first, then checked the gun and it was damaged! The point is I never seen one of our colts damaged like that in 35 years with the guns being carried and exchanged guard to guard 24/7!

I have one (in the rarer .38 Special) Good solid gun.

As for target grips on the round butt Speed Six. I believe that the pin is in the same position and you can probably put Square butt Targets on a round butt gun. Kind of defeats the purpose of a fine carry gun but to each his own.

The top gun is a Service Six with a spurless hammer, rounded butt and 3" barrel installed by a 'smith. Why the guy I bought it from just didn't buy a Speed Six is beyond me. It is, however, a great .357 CCW.
The other gun is a blued Speed Six. I like them both, and have no desire for a S&W snubbie.

I have one that has been mag-na-ported,and the action tuned.I really like it.It is a nice revolver.

My first handgun was a stainless "Bicentennial" Security Six that my Dad bought for me in 1977 ( I still have it). I recently acquired a Police Service Six in 357, and it, too is a stainless "Bicentennial" model. Built like a tank, indexes perfectly, and locks up tight. Also it's as accurate as my Smith 13-2. Great all around gun for travel, hiking, and going to the store at 2330 hrs.

I had a Security Six bought around 77 or so new it cosr me 99.00 out the door. Some low life skunge head stole it from me. It was a great shooting pistol. If I ever get lucky enough to find it and him i'll be willing use it on him.
