Ruger SR1911® Bullet Proof®

I don't think I could invest like that but I wanted a nice 1911 and with SR1911 I could customize to my likings without spending thousands of dollars I'm waiting on the slide to come back from a melonite treatment I can't wait its gonna look so nice two tone

muck up a perfectly good gun will ya!?!

there is a segment of the population that just cant leave well enough alone, me too haha .
i usually leave my guns fairly stock as far as parts go, but my cars...not so much . i took a 41 000 dollar(appraised) vintage car in near factory original condition ,with collector plates. i replaced the drive train lowered the suspension added tires wheels upgraded fuel system electrical cooling etc to the tune of an additional 25 000+ish doing what i could myself and farming out others...its no longer "numbers matching"worth about 25 000-30 000 tops ...but man is it fun to drive now! this was my dream from age 15 it took til i was 39 to make it happen
do whatever blows your hair back, we only go around once.
keep your original parts i still got the "numbers" 327 in the garage:cool:
hot rodding anything is fun
 
Just received my sweet custom Ruger grips :-) I can not wait to see the final product.

Well i received a majority of my parts yesterday only thing i am really waiting on is the trigger to come in but I have installed all the parts the safety is the only part I have to do a little more fitting on. So far though with the new sear and ejector it is a really nice light crisp trigger i am so impatient i want my slide back already. I talked to the smith today that they have and he said it is being stripped down today and being sent in for the treatment i hope it doesnt really take 4 weeks

Good for you hardknox! You will have a blast installing that stuff (assuming you do the work), and when you are done, consider the cost in parts as tuition for a 1911 gunsmithing class.

It's YOUR gun after all!

Its funny you say that because I'm thinking about taking one at Smith & Wesson its only an hour away
 
How fun!! I wish I could do that, maybe when I retire....in 19 years! ;-)

When I got my first 1911, I had visions of doing custom work (I'm handy) but both of my Colts shoot anything and everything through them more accurately than I can hold them, with nice triggers to boot, so I've kept them stock.

I read Patrick Sweeney's books about the 1911, and he had a great suggestion; buy a beater 1911 at a pawn shop (preferably broken-cheap cheap) and hone your fitting skills on that before you start in on your REAL project.
 
Well I received all my parts finally and only thing I'm having fitting issues with is the trigger and safety I am just about done fitting the trigger which is time consuming but will be so worth it to have that silk smooth trigger with no play in it and the safety just needs to be shaved a little bit so it doesn't rub against sear when switching the safe mode. Now I just have to be patient and wait for my slide arrggh :)
 
Somethings can't be measured in dollars and cents. It sounds to
me like you are having a ball doing the rebuild. Good for you!
 
Honestly its probably the most fun I have had in a while I mean I love shooting them but I sure do love building them too. Ya I may say a cuss word here and there but its part of the fun.
 
O ya everyone finally received my slide I just have to file down my ejector a little bit and pix will be up ASAP

I LOVED him in Dirty Dancing... Man that guy could dance. ;)

And my keyboard doesn't have an 'ALT' key and my screen doesn't have a 'START' icon.... :(

He was great as a kick azz bouncer in Road House, and as a ghost in Ghost.
Amazing guy, a dancer, actor and writes gun books.
