Range swap today. Guy next to me was shooting a Ruger SR22P and I had my S&W 617 .22. I prefer revolvers over semis, but was curious to try his as I heard good things about Ruger though never shot one except for the larger caliber Vaquero, which I liked.

He shot 2-inch groups with my Smith, no FTE/FTF, as usual, 3 bulleyes in 10 rounds. I couldn't hit the black with his Ruger and after 4 rounds it jammed. Swapped magazines and it still jammed. Then changed ammo and still kept misfiring. At this point, he switched to his Glock 17 and said, "must have been the magazine. My third one works fine." He didn't have it with him. The Ruger .22 P has gotten some good reviews, but may have issues. See vid.

Glad I own a Smith.

Interesting. I own a Beretta Neos for .22 semi-auto duty and while it looks like a space age water pistol, it does go bang every time.

I own a Ruger SR22P as well. All 3 mags work just fine. I went to a rimfire shoot back in Sept. Ended up shooting over 1000 rounds of .22 LR and 200 round of .22 WMR.

Didn't have any issues out of the 400 rounds that I shot out of the SR22. Had 2 FTF's out of my 10/22 with the same ammo. Put them in the SR22 and they shot fine.

The nose of the ammo wasn't perfect on those 2 rounds. Would catch on the lip of the 10/22 mag. Fed perfectly out of the SR22 mags.

So overall I have almost 900 rounds through my SR22 without any problems.

Sorry to hear that. My SR22P has been the most fun I've had lately with my clothes on. :)

Erich,

I like my SR22: it's a fine little shooter. Reliable and accurate. Mine has a terrible double action trigger. How about yours?

Compared to my Walther P22 I'd say the Ruger appears to be built a tad better. Although I've not had a lick of trouble from the Walther. The Walther does have a much better double action. Based upon my shooting, I'd say they are equal in the accuracy department. That may say more about my shooting than the pistols. :-)

Ruger has been crankin' out unbelievable production numbers the last couple of years.

Increased total units equals increased numbers of lemons too.

I have an old Ruger .22 convertable (love it) and a new (2011) Mk III Hunter. Love 'em both. Works good, lasts long time so far.

Out West, my SR22's DA pull is just fine. Long and smooth; better than my neighbor's P22 by a notable degree. I'm really impressed with the value this little thing seems to represent.

Sorry to hear you were bummed out w/ the SR22.

My buddy has one that I tried it and we had no problems, nor with our 41s, his Ruger 22/45, my P22, my son's MkIII or his Browning. We were using CCI SV in all of them

You didn't mention what ammo you were using, we frequenty find some pistols work 100% w/ one kind and give you a total jamathon with another.

You enjoy yours, that's all that counts. If I paid attention to internet reviews I probably wouldn't own anything.

I have an SR-22 pistol and love it. It literally lives in my range box with a bulk pack of 22lr ammo. Every time I go to the range I shoot it, even just a few magazines worth, to get extra trigger pulls in. I have been negligent (by my standards) on cleaning it and no issues. I know the sights out to 25 yards and am accurate at that range. It feeds and cycles everything I have tried. The trigger can be used to train many different modes, including SAO, DA/SA, safety to DA to SA, decocker, etc, depending on how you set it up.

I would not part with mine. It is a great tool and a great value.

bought one for my daughter for Christmas. Of course I had to break it in, and test fire it. No it is not a K22, it is not even close to MKIII.

It is probaly the best value gun I have bought in a long time. Reminds me of the first S&W model 10 I bought. Great gun for the price.

What it is: 17oz. Comes with fully adjustable sights. Comes with Two grips. Comes with Two mags. Comes with Two different mag butt plates.
All this for $294.00 + tax.

I have put ~ 700 rounds though it. No problems! Shot everything from CCI stingers to Rem Subsonic. No problems!!!

I have found it very accurate at ~ 10 yards. Shot five 12ga. hulls at 10 yards today. Five shots. It comes with a rail, and you can buy threaded barrels from Ruger. Also for this size gun to have a 10 round mag is great!!!

I'm sorry you had a bad time with the one you shot. I just have had great results. I'm going to hate giving it up. But I just ordered another one. Hope it is as good as the first one.

Well, this is not at all a matter of accuracy. Both of us experienced the same jamming problem.

I apologize, Just kidding you.(you did mention accuracy;)) I love all my Rugers and have not heard of problems with the SR22.

You said you switched ammo but not what kind. Regardless it should function on any brand, cheap bulk stuff included. My MII's will eat anything.
Call Ruger and they will take care of it but they will want to know the ammo type/brand.

Had my cousins SR22 W/CT laser to to make a holster for him. Of course I had to try it out,had trouble with 1 magazine. There was a small burr on on of the feed lips due to lack of use. Easy fix, checked out other magazine and cleaned both a few drops of my moly lube here and there on the pistol and no more problems. My buddy that was with me liked it so well he bought one the next week, no problems. Nice well made pistol as is his LC9 and SR9. I like the SR22 DA option over the MP22 and the warranty over the Walther warranty.

The only problem I've had with my SR22 is some excessive slide wear under slide stop. Contacted Ruger and they re-adjusted slide stop and replaced the slide (everything at their expense, of course). It eats ANY ammo I feed it. Just yesterday put about 200 rounds of federal bulk - not a hiccup. Sorry for your experience.
