Ruger Standard Auto .22

I put 170 rds of Aguila "Super Extra" 38 gr hp through this one this morning, 100% function. I don't know the rd count but maybe 3K/yr for almost 40 years adds up. I could live with this being my only .22 (perish the thought). Joe

Nice gun! Stainless and walnut looks good

Here's mine, a Standard. Like madmikeb, above, it was the first gun I ever bought. I purchased it new in 1974 for about $60. In all the years since, I have never shot a pistol with a better trigger. It's 2.5 - 3 lbs, smooth as silk, with minimal take-up and reset. I always feel sorry for Ruger Mark owners who have to pay Volquartsen in order to get decent triggers. At the range, if I switch from a "normal" pistol to my Standard, I always have to consciously reset my trigger finger's muscle memory, otherwise I will pull too hard and jerk the trigger. My Standard is also sturdy, reliable, and accurate. It's a keeper!

I would love to live the Ruger Standard. Just can't do it. You see, the 22lr ammo I use comes in boxes with 5 rounds in a row. To load my MkII or MkIV pistols requires two full rows. Everything comes out even. But not so with a Standard or a MkI. They have 9 round magazines. What am I supposed to do with that extra round making the rows uneven? You'd have to load 9 magazines at once which would leave you with 9 leftovers to load a tenth. Then you'd have loaded 90 rounds, leaving 10 in a box. If you loaded an eleventh mag, there would be one leftover round in an otherwise empty box. That is just too much stress. I'll never have a Ruger Standard. I couldn't stand the strain.

I have two mk1 and a mk11 ruger. Couole woodsmans and a high standard victor. My kids shoot the crsp out of them. One of my mk1's is a "1976" model. It was a Christmas eve GB purchase. Im on the hunt for a original ruger. I have a single six esrly production. When i was in my 20's never thought rugers would gain value. They have now.

My then fiance bought one as a practice partner for her Luger in about 79. It started her on a buying spree that never let up. Tons of fun.

I got a 6 inch bull barrel many years ago and paid too much at an auction for a 4 inch stainless MKII last year. The 4 inch sure shoots well. I bought several magazines as it saves time at the range. When glancing at the 4 inch, it does look a bit like a Luger.
