I picked this one up today from a friend. Your comments please as I know very little about these. I do know that most had the brass trigger guard.

The serial number as well as the color of the box indicates it is indeed an old model Super Bearcat. The model number should be SBC-4. Looks like circa 1971-73.

According to the "Ruger and his Guns" about half during that era were made with anodized aluminum trigger guards, and half were blued.

Cute little bugger! I don't think it's brass though. Aluminum that's been plated/treated, I may be wrong though. Very collectible whatever it is.

It's anodized aluminum. That's why if you nick it, the dent will show white metal below and it can't merely be polished out like brass could.

I have an early 1969 that I purchased in the mid 70's. It has the brass finished trigger guard and no transfer bar. I've not shot it much and it's in very nice shape. The SN is 90-012xx

Yeh...I own a Super Bearcat from 1972.

Can't say any bad about the little revolver. It is a bit picky about which .22 LR ammo it likes as far as accuracy. The little Bearcat does like .22 Short for some reason shooting really well with about any brand .22 short.

My Bearcat had some sort of aftermarket grips on it when I got it. A previous owner didn't like the brass grip screw being visible and capped it with glued in brass caps so the grips could not be removed without digging the caps off. Ruger sells rosewood grips that fit the latest variations of Bearcat...I took a chance and ordered a set of grips straight from Ruger and these fit the old model Bearcat perfectly

Mr. Moose ;) Very nice pick up! I have wanted a Bearcat, any Bearcat, for years and can't seem to find a clean one with box. It's way toooo cold up there in Michigan for that little Ruger ... it would be much more comfy in Virginia :)
