Ruger Super Blackhawk .44 Magnum

Thank you for all the replies.

My friend has a bunch of old receipts of his dad's and he hopes to find the one for this one. He found the one for the .41 Mag I cleaned.

His dad was good friends with the owner of the LGS in Anaheim, CA back then and he's pretty sure that's where his dad bought it.

Here’s what a Ruger factory letter looks like these days. I cropped the top because it contained my personal information.

They generally only take a few weeks, but I had the misfortune to order 5 letters on March 4th of last year. The records on these early guns aren’t computerized and the researcher was locked out of the plant because of covid until the end of the year. She phoned me several times to keep me up to date and was finally able to access the records in late December. Lovely lady!

Here’s the SBH in the above letter. It’s had a sheltered existence and hasn’t been more than 35 miles from Williams Gun Sight since the day it was purchased new! :)

Here's my Super B, one of the last old models produced in 1973 . It's pictured with one of the original Ruger .44 Magnum Blackhawks with factory stag grips, made in 1957.

This Super Blackhawk replaced a "white box" Super B, serial #10030, which I foolishly sold in order to buy another gun I wanted. If any of you ever come across it, I want it back! To add insult to injury, my wife threw out the box in a household move. Those white boxes were rare, and probably worth more than the gun when you find them today.

The older guns were finely finished, and the chambers were recessed for the cartridge rims, giving them a bank-vault look. Wish they still made them that way!

A Ruger SBH was my first quality CF revolver back when I was a kid. I got a Stoger Shooters Bible for Christmas 1958. In it you will find SBH with brass frame and wooden presentation case. I was only 8 and it was a few more years till I got mine. Still have it and it’s in good shape. I won’t hesitate to buy used Rugers. The biggest part of them have been fired very little. You can tell easy if gun has had big round count and/ or heavy loads.

Like I Need an Excuse

To post some pics of my 1973 Old Model Super Blackhawk. Ive been told its been reblued but the lettering and fit of grip frame to frame seem original to me. Its a wonderful example of Ruger's build mastery and is exceptionally accurate. I thought it well deserving of the El Paso Saddlery Jesse James model holster.
