Ruger77 in 250 Savage ??**I got it THANX!*

Any Ruger fans here have an opinion on a Ruger mdl77 in 250 Savage?? I found a clean one with an old Bushnell scope for 650 and the seller seems pretty firm. Seems high to me, but it has caught my interest pretty badly. What seems fair to yall?? I'm thinking 550 tops. OK maybe 600.

I'd check the Ruger Forum. The price is a tough one because there's lots of old school folks very fond of this classic little round. And if it's as scarce (but I doubt it) as the 77 in 358 Winchester it might be a great price. My opinion only comes from reading about the gun while researching my Savage 99's. The .250-3000 sometimes drifted over to other makes like the Ruger. Is it an International with full stock? That would be cool.

I think Ruger did some of these odd calibers, or still does for Davidson's distribution every now and then, including 7.62x39, 9.3x74, .358 and etc. in the 77 MkII.

Are you talking about an old 77 thumb safety or the 77 MkII?

If the Ruger has a 1:10 or even 1:12 twist, you will really enjoy the rifle. If it has the slower 1:14 or 1:16 twist (can't remember which) of the 99 Sav., you will find 100 gr spitzer and 117 round nose about as heavy of bullet as will stabilize. Not a major drawback but an inconvenience, at least in my 99.

Ruger M77/250 Savage

I bought a used one about five years ago. Mine is an older version with the flat looking bolt handle. I paid $425 for it w/no scope. It had been used a bit, but the previous owner had already bedded the recoil lug and it shoots very well. My daughter both like it as they claim it recoils less than my old .243 although the ballistics are the same.

We have killed a big bunch of deer and a hog or two with it. If you handload the rifle will stand a bit stouter load than a 99. I'm running Hornady 100 grainers SPs out of it @2900fps and change. It also likes the Speer 87 grain spitzers @ 3050fps.

Mine will stablize everything I've tried from a 60 grain to a 115 grain bullet. IIRC it has a 1-10 twist.

Seems a bit high to me ... $450 would be my top offer with the scope.

a bit high, if he'll come down a bit I'd get it, if it's a wood stock. if he'll come down 100 or more I'd get it, in a boat paddle stock.

It is a mid to late 70's production. This would be the older tang safety model. I dont know if it is a flat handle or not.
It is a wood stocked, tapered barrel with no sights rifle. I am gonna try to get it as close to 550 as I can. I have a Savage 99R in 250, but I really want a bolt gun in this caliber to experiment with some handloads with. I can see it hunting deer and coyotes out to 200 yards with no problems, and I dont want to abuse the 99.

The M77 in .250-3000 is a fairly collectable rifle but even a better shooter. My uncles DIL uses his 77 .250-3000 to hunt elk. So far she has done real well with it.

I'm working on some loads for it now using RL15 and 100 grain Hornady spire points.

BTW there was one at a gun show last year that sold for $650. Don't believe there was a scope on it but it did have the Ruger rings.

I just got off the phone with the owner, he is keeping the bipod and scope and taking a little off the price. He is happy as am I. I should have it in time to sight it in next weekend!! WOOO HOOO I love weird caliber guns!!

I have one as well and it is a great shooter. Loves the 87 grn Nosler Ballistic Tips. Also does very well with anybody's 100 grain projectile. My granddad used to call the Savage 99 in 250 Savage his "Meat in the pot" gun. Great Find!!!
Would love to find one in 6.5X55 next.......
