I have some rust on the upper part of the backstrap of a Model 19 I used some 0000 steelwool and oil and got most of it off. It has left a full finish on the part I removed the rust from. Should I used some cold blue to bring back the blue. I used some Fritz polish but did not do much. It took some more rust off. Any suggesttions. thanks

If you removed the rust and left the bluing intact, I'd opt for a coat of wax and calling it good.

I think instead of "full finish" the poster meant to type "dull finish".

Other than the polish you tried, there's not much else you can do. You could try some Brownell's Oxpho Blue, but most any of the cold blues you put on that spot aren't going to match the rest of the bluing on the gun. It's up to you though whether you want to try, or just leave it as is.

Put some EEZOX on that spot (and the rest of the gun) for corrosion protection.
