Rutabegars

Peel them. Cut them up into chunks. Boil until tender. drain mash with a little butter and salt and pepper. That's how I like them.
Rutabegas are also known as summer turnips. I find them a good bit sweeter than turnips and although I have not tried it, I would assume you can put them into whatever else you put turnips into-like a good pork backbone stew.
 
They are good in soups and stews. My hunnie puts them in a beef stew she makes in the crock pot. Good eatin'!
 
Today I added a couple to the pot roast I was making. Peeled them, and cut them into 1/8ths. Tossed them in when the roast had a couple of hours yet to cook. Tasted pretty good.
 
You could make a dish called "Heaven And Earth."
It's spuds and rutabaga boiled and mashed together. Add butter and milk to the mashed spuds, as usual.
Put some more butter on the mixture when you get it on your plate.
