S O on the Grips?

You guys have seen the C95XXX serial numbered 1950 Military 5 inch of mine. Here are a couple of pictures of the Grips. What is the SO about or was that something someone else put on it. The SO sure isn't my Fathers initials. There is something written on the other Grip but it is unreadable. I have written for the letter from Mr. Jenks. Thanks for the link for that.

Perhaps it is a driver's license or other personal ID of some kind from a previous owner? At least it wasn't engraved on the sideplate!

I'll guess... The person that put the # on the grips didn't realize the serial # was already there...The "SO" could be that individuals initials..
