S prefix 29-2 storage question

Mighty fine looking 6-shooter you got. Gin socks work great, and help pad the gun as well as protect it from schmutz. A silicone cleaning cloth works well also, just wrap the gun with it.

Bee-YOU-tee-ful specimen. I have a 29 no-dash that's not quite as nice a shape. I keep it in a gun rug and have had no issues at all with rust. Of course it depends on where you live. I'm not in a humid area and the temperature rarely ever goes to extremes. If I had to worry about it I'd be using the Bore Stores.

Brutis: You didn't mention where you would be keeping/storing your very nice Model 29-2. Gun safe? Nightstand? Cabinet? I don't believe in storing my firearms in any kind of sock, bag, rug, box, or presentation case. I think it's best that they "breathe". The only time I put any of mine in a case is when I'm traveling or going to the range. Like other Forum members, I clean and lube my firearms with some type of CLP, then wipe down, and apply Renaissance Wax. That's it. As long as your storage site is relatively cool and dry (A/C or humidifier or both), and you monitor their condition periodically, everything should be fine. I live in hot, humid, salty Central Florida and have never had a problem. I store most of my firearms in my gun safe, and for handguns I use a combination of Gun Storage Solutions handgun wire hangers and Hornady/SnapSafe or Versatile Rack wire handgun racks. I do keep some modern pistols in the pocket holsters of my safe door panel organizer. BTW: How old is your 29-2? Is it an early model or later? Enjoy!

No need to oil and wax or apply wax, then oil as this combination can make a greasy mess. Wax or oil, pick one, the silicone sock will provide additional protection, but it is always best to store firearms in a dry, climate controlled area.

I do similarly, most of my handguns hang from the muzzle in my safe, except for a couple I don't have the space to do that. I have humidity control, and none of my guns go unhandled (over 30 of all types) more than a couple of weeks at a time, so I can stay on top of their condition (and because I like to "play" with them). I do keep two in presentation cases, and one in its factory box, but all three are wrapped in silicone cleaning cloths, are well oiled internally and RenWaxed externally..

OP mentioned it is an "S" prefix dash-2, would make it an earlier one. I'd love to have a pre -1968 M29-2, or any one earlier than that. Mine is from 1979, which is still good.

Better to strip off oil before waxing IME. Oil on moving parts + wax on exterior.

I store all of my handguns either in cardboard boxes or in gun rugs, both with protective paper like Lenny shows above. Cylinder & Slide and Protects-Gun both sell the boxes. Everything in dehumidified safe.

The BoreStores look nice but they would take up more space and there's no way to label them.

Most of mine are in their original cardboard box, plastic cases or gun rugs. Some of mine have been in gun rugs for 30 years or more without issue. All are located in the safe, indoors.

All my guns are in SAC UP silicon socks, I wax all of them with Renaissance wax. The safe has several humidity collectors and a meter.
