I've had one for several years now, never gets used, has anyone had any luck modifying one to cycle 2 3/4 target loads.

Your best bet would be to look for a 2 3/4" chambered barrel.
I have heard of drilling another gas port hole in the barrel ring of the 3" Magnum barrel, but then it wouldn't be advisable to use it for 3" Magnum loads.
