I picked this up today. It is a 14-2 and I was told that it came from a store in Dayton, Ohio. I took the original grips off an put them away and stuck these target grips on it. Anyone know about the 14-2? It seems that most came with a 6 inch barrel.

I have one of those as well. It's a Dayton gun. Special run from around 1966 for Dayton Gun Distributors. One of my favorite Smith revolvers.

An original 14-2 4" would be worth lettering as they are very rare.

I found this out when I bought mine, only to find that it had shipped as a 6" to the LAPD, At some point a 4" barrel was fitted.

A great gun to be sure. I wonder sometimes if S&W didn't do something to the triggers on the Model 14. I've never felt a bad one.

Nice looking 14. If you would post all or part of the serial number, we can verify that it is in the range of the Dayton guns. The barrel rib should be solid, not serrated like on standard 14's. Congratulations on finding a nice revolver!

bought new. Don

I have a K38 and a Model 14-4 and both have great triggers. I think S&W went all on these guns to attract competition shooters.

K38 made in 1953

Hi,
I'm a new member of this forum. I have a Model 14-2, 6", Serial #K763924. Any idea when it was manufactured or where I can look up such information? I purchased it used (in VG to E condition) 20 years ago for $150. It's a great shooter and still in the condition in which I purchased it. I'll post a pic in the not too distant future.

Thanks, folks.

Welcome to the forum. You gun was probably shipped in 1967

Th Smith and Wesson Bible is the Standard Catalog of Smith and Wesson 3rd edition by Supica and Nahas.
