Well I'll start this off as I really don't care what its worth (have an idea anyway) as I have no plans to sell this inherited gun. I've never been a revolver kind of guy and this is the first I have owned. I'm so tired of all the 100's of posts you see on the web like "I just inherited this how much can I sell it for". When it comes to guns aside from sentimental value I'm more of a gun hoarder.

This is a 38 S&W Special CTG stamped model 15-3 with serial 1K874--. I guess the 15-3 is the renamed K-38 Combat Masterpiece? From what I can read I assume my father had bought this because its the same gun he carried as an AP in the early 60's. If anyone knows the approximate age from serial that would be good too. Seems to be in good shape other than a little finish wear on end of barrel from hard leather holster. Well the painted front sight needs some cleanup too. I'll probably pickup some ammo and give it a spin this weekend.

The Standard Catalog of Smith & Wesson, 3rd ed., shows 1K39501 to 1K99999 as the K-frame serial number range for 1971. Enjoy your 15-3!

Mine was made in 1964 and the way they make the newer S&W revolvers mine is priceless.

It's a priceless gun because it was your Dad's and even more it should stay in the family and be passed on to your heir when it's time.

I agree with fyimo. This 15-2 was my dad's and it was given to me when he was still living. It is staying in the family! I promised it to my daughter who was close to my dad. When I pass, it will be hers (assuming Holder doesn't get it first!).
