Hi and welcome to the forum,

I only collect Performance Center models of the 1911 series, so I'm not the best source on what you're looking for, but since no one else has dropped in yet I'll tell you what's in the 'Bible', the Standard Catalog of S&W. The model was introduced in 2003, and the first production run had serial numbers with the prefix "JRD" (the initials of the designer/engineer). These examples were stainless, however, not blue and would have a fixed, low-mount rear sight, where as the following year it was upgraded to an adjustable sight. That original run retailed for just under $1,000. Where your blued model came along, I'm not sure, but if the box label is present, it will have a date code.

Thanks Bill; I am going to look at one to buy but just didn,t know anything about a 1st Edition other then the obvious that it was probably one of the 1 st to come out. This one is asking $900. Says it,s like new. Low round count & all that stuff. If I buy it, it will be my 1st full size 1911 so I only know what I read about them. Maybe I,m Better off looking for a later model.
Thanks Again
Jerry

I can't recall off hand, but it should have a certain serial number prefix and there was some discussion early on about the barrels used or the fit which resulted in excellent accuracy if the shooter did his part.

but I am sure there will be someone along to confirm.
