Wow!
Can't agree at all with Rpg. I AM right in line with Big Cholla. I have a 1911Sc I bought from Ray Ordorica of Gun Tests Magazine some years back.
I also bought a PC1911RB in 2013.
Both have spit out several thousand rounds with bullet weights from 185 to 230, hollow-point, semi-wadcutter and round-nose. Commercial and my handloads.
Not a single malfunction yet. The Sc is a regular carry gun thanks to its light weight, and the RB rides along too, sometimes.
I have owned more than a dozen Colts and had no problems with any of them, either. No soft springs or broken extractors. Better? Well, they may be more collectible, but I could give a rat's patoot about that. Mine are tools or toys. If I can't shoot 'em I don't want 'em.
As to magazines, I do understand that some S&W autos (e.g. my M4516) can use only one specific magazine, but I've had no trouble with my 1911s. Only a couple months ago I took the S&Ws and a SigSaur C3 to the range and forgot to pack the extra factory mags. BUT, I did have a bag of miscellaneous magazines for my Colts, some of them dating to the 1960s and Vietnam.
Narry a hitch.
So, I say "If you likes 'em, buyz 'em."
