Why did S&W go to the small dia. firing pin as used in the Colt 38/9mm versions instead of the tradidational larger dia. 1911 45ACp type. I discovered this when detail stripping. All other parts of my .45 1911Sc appear to be interchangable with the Colt type guns. Any advantage to using the small dia. pin in a 45 gun?

One less part to stock. Less likelihood of primer flow. In .45 it doesn't really make a difference.
