Several years ago I picked up a used 22-4 TRS for $600, it is without a doubt my favorite revolver. It came with the green range bag, all of the original paperwork and accessories, and a bunch of full moon clips, but only one thing was missing, the stock grips. Somewhere along the way the owner swapped them for a CT laser grip, and straight away lost them or sold them. I have been looking for a set ever since. Well tonight I go on GB (I know, I know), on the outside chance, no grips, But some shop down in Florida is offering a used 22-4 for a "Buy it Now" price of $1949.00.

Think I should offer him $150 for the grips?

This one came off GB last year for just a smidge more than you acquired yours. My bid was one of three in a week long auction. I feel that speaks to the market value. Some people just like to go fishing on GB...and often they catch a fish....

For what it's worth the reason I have the original grips is for the sake of originality. They are largely useless on this gun which is a tad light for caliber.

Couldn't stand the CTs, so now it wears a Hogue monogrip.

You might want the originals but I had that gun with them and they are completely useless other than for show. You are a lucky man.

^^^^what he and SLT223 said. A seasoned magnum revolver shooter, I was amazed at the recoil of my Model 22 of 1917 with the factory grips and hardball ammo. Not even a T-grip helped. I had the lanyard ring removed from the butt of the grip and installed Pachs.

I wouldn't worry about not having the original grips if you're shooting the gun. They seem to be simply for show.

If you have to resort to ' Hogue Monogrips " then it's obvious that you don't know how to properly handle / shoot revolvers .
I'm a pretty big guy , 6'5" tall with pretty big hands , shot my first 44 magnum when I was 10 , many many moons ago . I routinely carry a 4" 44 magnum (29) with those same grips only the butt end I rounded off and they are just fine with full power loads .
I always encourage people to learn how to properly handle / shot their revolver with the factory grips first before wasting good money . I add " You just might surprise yourself " , and they usually do .

There was one at last month's Tanner show in Denver for $800. Immaculate condition. I was going to go back for it when I found the possible Jovino conversion I got instead.

If I had the extra cash I'd go to the next one in 2 weeks to see if it is still available.

Stocks depend on what you're used to and how well they fit. I've shot my Thunder Ranch .45 a lot in the last ten years or so and have never seen a need to replace the Magna-size Thunder Ranch grips that came on it. In fact, I have Magna grips on all my K- and N-frame S&Ws.

I've tried Tyler adaptors and found them to be of cosmetic benefit only.

Good point! For every Jack, there's a Jill. Also why there's more than one horse in every race.

This revolver didn't come with factory stocks when I got it. That is the entire point of this post. I swapped the factory magnas from another one of my N frame Square butts (a model 25) and shot it fine, but still keep the Hogues on there. It's not a matter of "not knowing how to shoot a revolver", something I have been doing for most of my 60 years. Thanks for your help.

I'm always amazed at the number of people willing to tell someone else what they aught to do or think. Good grief!

Revolver stocks (grips if you must) are about as personal as shoes since all our hands are not the same any more than our feet are the same. Personally I like Magna stocks with a grip adapter, but that just me. If you don't, more power to you.

Lighten up folks!

Whadyu mean?! You don't wear shoes the wrong size? Well, all that means is you don't know how to wear shoes :)

p8riot congratulations on getting your grips taken car of.

I like this firearm as well

Mine is one of the early ones that had the wrong height front sight installed,
but Smith and Wesson is so good at getting that kind of thing taken care of

I have put alternate grips on mine since the factory supplied grips do not
quite fit me, but the originals are kept with the firearms packaging.

I am happy to say that many dozens of my firearms wear Hogue Wood Grips.
To fit my hands properly I order my Hogue Monogrips with no finger grooves.

I would bet money that Dave T's shoes would not work well on my feet.
Using a grip that properly fits you personally is part of what makes the
shooting experience more enjoyable.

Many of you know I like numbers,
my Thunder Ranch Revolver Model 22 is serial number TRR0022 :)
