Went back and looked at it again. It is recessed but not pinned??? and there is very light to negligible scoring on the cylinder. Looks to be in excellent shape. No box or papers. Asking price is $475.00

Magnums and .22 rimfire S&W revolvers HAD recessed cylinders. The recessed magnum cylinders were discontinued, but the .22 rimfire cylinders were not and exist today in current production guns as far as I know.
I had a model 34 snub that I bought used and later traded for another gun. It's one of the trades I regret to this day. I bought 2 more a few years ago and based on my experience, that looks like a good deal at $475.00.
The model 34 snub is a handy and fun gun to have.

Per the SCSW, likely a 1982 shipped gun.

Centerfire Magnum cylinders lost the counterbored chambers at about this time, but all rimfires still had this feature. All revolvers lost the pinned barrel about then. I'd also call it a pretty good deal.

I would say the price you paid was an excellent deal and I would have grabbed it in a heart beat.

Second-guessing any nice pre-lock S&W for less than $500 is close to a guarantee of losing that revolver to someone else.
