Bought this at recent local auction. Presumably a Jovino creation. Came with original box with papers, tools, etc. Product code 100904. Thought i did pretty good at a price of 1,300.

Any information on these are appreciated.

Thanks for looking. 20250411_120734.jpg20250411_120452.jpg

Not exactly my cup of tea, but for only $1300, I'd quickly learn to love that cup of tea!

I don't think there are as many in .45 Colt as other calibers. While not "rare," I would submit it is scarce. I have a .45 ACP and would not consider less than $2K for it. (and probably would pass on that offer).

Is this the original box with the revolver? Do you have a photo of the side of the box with the white serial number label? An Effector of this era should have a silver sticker with the word EFFECTOR, and there should be an additional sticker for a 7 character alphanumeric log number for internal reference used by 1PP NYPD License Division.

The .45 caliber N-frames (both .45LC and .45ACP) were the first to get cut down simply because S&W had a couple thousand of them collecting dust and the entire lot was sold to the John Jovino store (to Lou Imperato) at discount; that story is linked below. Other calibers followed after the concept proved profitable, and they moved onto .44Mag Astra's when they depleted the original N frame order, and Astra's were cheaper as a base gun to modify anyway.

Edit from above: I called the gunsmith and he clarified to me that the little additional label with the alphanumeric was the Jovino bound book number, not the 1PP log number.

John Jovino history thread.

Also, from here it looks like a real Effector to me. I knew the gentleman that made Effectors and Terminators for the Jovino store.

I don’t recall seeing Effectors with the notch/treatment below the muzzle on the ejector shroud.

Here's a pic of the end label. Thanks for information.

Doesn't get any more straightforward than this. The 1PP NYPD log number sticker is there. The fact that it's a factory 6 inch on the sticker and your Effector is snubby shows it was cut down after it left the factory. Incidentally you may notice the bluing is slightly different from the barrel and the frame; a byproduct of having to refinish the barrel after cutting, crowning and silver soldering and polishing. The Jovino shop sent all their refinishing work out to some outfit in New Jersey whose name escapes us, but the purplish hue is fairly characteristic.

Honestly if you lettered that gun and serial to get it in writing (that it was originally shipped to Jovino, NYC) it would only add provenance and value to the gun.

I have the letter printed out, just not filled out yet. I do plan to get it. Thanks again for the information.
