Sorry guys I've been out of touch for a while (and still haven't found a 3.5" 27-2 in So Cal.!) but I have a question; are all 27-2s pinned and recessed? And approx what year did S&W stop making 27s with pinned barrels and recessed cylinders? Thanks ... jrent

The -3 came out in 1982 and eliminated the P&R. All 27-2 should be P&R, but with Smith all things don't always happen as they should be. Some of the P&R 27-2 may have been shipped into that year as they made the transition and frames were used up.

A large number of the 4" 27-2s made 1979-1981 are observed with unpinned -3 barrels. There may be -2s in other barrel lengths with -3 parts but the 4" guns are the only ones I have seen.

I have four 27-2's. 3 1/2", 5", 6". and 8 3/8.' All are P&R

Thanks guys for all the replies and helpful info. 1 old 0311 you are one lucky man!

That is a nice group there. Y'all might wanna look at some of dtrinas posts, if ya REALLY wanna be jealous.....

My opinion only but the Model 27 is the most beautiful revolver ever built. We are fortunate to own 7 of them: Six -2's & one -3. The -2 guns are four 6" blued, one 6" nickel, one 4" blued. The -3 is an 8 3/8 nickel non P&R.
