Hello All,

I am new to my 29-2 revolver but wanted to get your opinion on triggers. I dislike serrated triggers in general, and find this one annoying when I dry fire it more than 12 times. I can't imagine how annoying it will be when shooting through a box of ammo.

I am skilled enough to detail strip it, grind the serrations out and blue the bare metal. However, I would be a bit sad at the loss of the case-hardened look on the trigger.

I have done a bit of searching for replacement triggers and can't find any case hardened smooth faced ones that are in the medium to wide widths [I don't want a narrow trigger for this pistol].

There is the Powers Custom trigger though that is smooth.

What would you recommend- grind and reblue so hammer/trigger interface stays same, or change to smooth faced Powers Custom to save collector value?

[as if my kids would find the spare trigger before selling the guns after I pass.]

I like the serrated triggers. smooth triggers, though might be more liking for double action pull in a pinch, I am not in a pinch. I like the speech MsgGnySgt Plumly said to Lt Col Gibson in the movie: "Custer was a *****; You Aint."

I have smoothed several grooved triggers in the past using a dremel tool. Not hard to do. But, in your guns case, I would probably look for a factory smooth replacement NOS or used in clean shape so as to preserve the originality of your 29. Can't stand a grooved trigger on a gun that is going to see a lot of DA use.

So far as I know, S&W did not offer a .500" smooth trigger, but they did offer a .400" smooth trigger (might be a .375"). My M28-2 has one and I wish all my revolvers had one like it. Be patient, look on eBay and see what Numrich might have available, maybe someone here on the forum might have one, you might get lucky here or at a gun show, but don't go grinding on yours except as a last resort. The proper finish would be case-color if you go the route of modifying yours.

It was called the Ranger trigger. Smooth and .40 in wide. I have 4 mounted in my Smiths.

I told the gunsmith who modified my M25 for IDPA that I wanted the trigger serrations dulled but not ground smooth; I learned DA on a Python with rather rounded grooves. I also had him reduce the hammer spur but not bob it off.

Hi All,

Got my 29-2 back from S&W [long story for different thread] and began work on a spare trigger I picked up.

At the time I was purchasing I couldn't find a smooth trigger that was between .3 ad .370" in my price range.

I found a .500 wide target trigger with grooves.

I just finished trimming/filing sides, and the I ground off grooves and polished the metal to be smooth.

I am in process of cold bluing the worked areas of the trigger.

Thanks for the tips everyone.
