I picked up this 32 S/W Revolver Friday and would like to get some feedback on what I have. The gun looks to be original and has 32 LR OTG on the right side with no model number to be found. By looking at the book it looks to be a 1949 or earlier model but not sure when or what it is.

I did shoot it over the weekend and it works great, I'm wondering if it's of value and if I should put it up or shoot it for fun.

I have not cleaned it up and I'll try and upload a couple pics.

Any feedback would be appreciated.

Thanks

32 LR? Or 22 LR?

My guess is that the OTG should be CTG for cartridge. Others will be along with a better answer, but photos are the best thing for identifying a gun. Also, be sure to read the sticky post above on identifying your gun, as it has a lot of helpful hints to help others in identifying it for you.

It looks like the 32 caliber equivalent of the Model 1905...Not sure what model it is....It's probably worth $50, but I'll give you $150.....Seriously, that's a beaut......I'd love to find one like it....Congrats.

It appears to be a .32 Hand Ejector from the early 1920s. Is the serial number on the front strap of the grip frame or on the bottom? And what is the number?
Jack

The serial number is on the I-Frame when you open the cylinder and a matching on the steel on the stock/grip
Then I have another one on the cylinder that does not match.
The Serial number is 280692

It does say OTG not CTG

I also have a S/W 38 2nd model 3 inch, looks original and has 1 of the grips 1/2 broke off about
50 to 60 %.
Anyone know about these guns, or where I can get new or original grips?
serial number 485##

I was going to add more pics but the site would only let me upload one, every time I added another one it just replaced it.
I'll try again
Thanks for the information.

Jack has the time frame correct, early 1920s. The stocks (grips) ID it as a .32 Regulation Police; it does not have a model stamp because it was not called the model 31 until 1957. The official serial number on this one is on the front strap of the grip frame, and the rear cylinder face and barrel flat (among other places) should match this number. Looks nice.

The other (.38) you asked about may be one of a few different models. Have a look at the link jsfricks posted and we can let you know more about that one. Hope this is helpful.

When you say there is one on the cylinder that does not match, where exactly on the cylinder is it? And is the one on the grip frame on the front strap of the grip frame, as Alan indicated?
I agree with him that it looks like an RP, but your serial information is a bit confusing.

Okay, the number on the cylinder is on the edge where you load. I looked again and all the numbers match Cylinder, Frame and handle 369083. There is another number down inside the I frame and it's 13375.

Your phrase, "inside the I frame" is throwing people off... I assume you are talking about the part of the frame that swings out when you open the cylinder to load(?) If so, that moving part is called the yoke and the number on it has nothing to do with the serial number. That number is an assembly number used as the gun was being built, but no longer important after completion and assignment of the "official" serial number. The assembly number is also found inside the side plate and perhaps somewhere hidden on the frame itself. The serial number is always found on the front of the grip frame, the rear of the cylinder and the underside of the barrel (along with some harder to find other places) on the model you have, the Regulation Police.

Okay. Finally. As others have noted, your revolver is a .32 Regulation Police and it dates from about 1920-1922. It appears to be in Very Good to Excellent condition.
