I'm new to S&W. I just bought a 38 S&W special, 6 shot 4" barrel SN # D694855. It has wooden grips with the S&W overlay logo, on the lower right side of the frame it says MADE IN USA MARCAS REGISTRADIS. Smith & Wesson Springfield Mass. It has some holster wear and light rust in certain places. Can someone tell me anything about this weapon?

Welcome to the forum!

Post a pic if you can. Also, open the cylinder, look for a number stamped in the yoke. The number will probably be between 10 and 15, probably with a dash and then another number.

Based on the serial number it appears to be a K frame model 10, 12, 13, 14 or 15 produced between 1974 and 1975.

Impossible to say for sure without a pic or model number.

Anyway, welcome to the forum and good for you!

The D prefix narrows it down to a model 10-5 (steel frame, tapered barrel), 10-6 (heavy or untapered barrel), or 12-2 (alloy frame, tapered barrel). The stampings you mention are all standard for S & W revolvers of the era.

S&W 38 Special CTG

In addition to the SN# D694855, I found these numbers in the yoke 48783 and F12. Hope this helps and thank you for the reply.

In addition to the SN# D694855, I found these numbers in the yoke 48783 and F12. I have no idea about the history of this weapon. I bought it from a friend for $300.00. I Hope the additional information helps, and thank you for your reply.

38 Spec ctg K frame

Where can I find grips for a 38 spec ctg 6 shot 4"bbl Mdl 10-5 K frame Sn# d694855 ?

Rubber stamp:
CTG is "cartridge", part of the caliber stamping.

You can leave it out when discussing the Model 10 & just call it a .38 Special if you need to mention caliber.
You can also do an Internet search for Model 10 gripmakers that will give you several options, including Smith & Wesson's site.

In ordering or buying, make sure you specify square (most likely) or round gripframe, depending on which your gun has.
Serial number is only needed for determining age of the gun.
