Need help identifying S&W 38 top break

Please give me details and history of this top break S&W 38 cal. Pistol

Serial # 397450 on the butt, 38 S&W.CT ( followed by two unreadable letters ) on the left side of the barrel.
Harrington & Richardson Arms Co.Worchester Mass, USA on the top of the barrel.

What you have is a Harrington and Richardson (H&R) revolver, a less expensive look alike of a S&W. The caliber marking on the side of the barrel indicates manufacture after 1908 when H&R started to mark the caliber in that location. There were very large numbers of these guns made over a rather long time frame. Some pictures might help to narrow down the time of production a bit, serial number records for this brand are somewhat spotty as far as some models. Probably should move this to the "Other Firearms" section for more responses.
