S&W 3906

Some time ago I purchased a 3906 off from a member here. I don't recall who that was. I love the single stack S&W 9mm's. I have 1st, 2nd and 3rd generations. I have a question on my 3906. From everything I have read and pictures I have seen, the 3906 all have the square trigger guard. Mine doesn't. It is rounded. I know it is possible that this was done after manufacture, but how do I tell, for sure? If it was done after manufacture, who ever did it did an excellent job. Yes, I could call S&W, but perhaps someone here knows. I would add pictures but I'm too naive to do so. The serial number begins with TDL. The gun is also a decocker only. I'm sure that this was probably done after manufacture unless it was an LE order. Thanks.

I have an M3906 from roughly the same vintage (TDL0xxx) that was smithed at Novak's. The trigger guard was reworked to be round, but a remnant of the little flare at the bottom of the square guard is visible.

Mine is also a decocker only.

I've owned late production nod dash 3906, 6906, 5906, and 4566 models, all had lost the square finger hold style for the rounded trigger guard. Guess S&W realized the finger on the guard shooting grip fad had died off.

To my knowledge there was never (and I use that word cautiously) a production "round" trigger guard 3906 or 04 for that matter.

Although I wouldn't modify either my 3904 or 06, I've seen pictures of custom work such as you mention and they look very nice.

A 3006 with a factory production round trigger guard would absolutely become my favorite gun.

Yes I know this is about 3906's . But here's a couple of shots of a 639 that I removed the front hook from and rounded the trigger guard. 'I' think it turned out pretty good.
