Hello all, I am new to the forum, but have been lurking for some time. This is a great source of info and so I hope you can help me.

I have two 3rd gen smiths: 3953 and 5943. When I chamber a round with a full mag in the 3953 (8 rds) and then remove the magazine, sometimes, a "loose" round pops out. I know the round behind the one that is chambered slides forward slightly in anticipation of being chambered, but . . . these are brand new mags so I am trying to figure this out. I am concerned this is a safety issue if I CCW and have to do a mag change. I love these guns and can shoot them ambidextrously so I want to keep them (over carrying my Glock), but I am curious if there is something I can do here.

thansk!

Sounds familiar , does it happen every time ? I have had my 2nd gems do this from time to time. I wouldn't be too concerned about a mag change in a ccw situation unless you have managed to exhaust the original mag & are reloading. Maybe it being new it has a little breaking in ? Perhaps its the way you take out the mag. Just guesses

I am not sure what your concern is. I have taken several SD classes with a 3914. In a SD scenario you will either change mags when you are out or you will do a tactical reload. In the former instance, the mag will slide out easily because there are not more rounds. In the latter case, if the mag sticks, you should always train to rip it out of the gun, as you might have to do in case of a malfunction.

thanks for the responses - the concern is figuring out why it does this. I presume in a firefight, it won't be an issue (the mags feed reliably at the range), but I am curious to know why they do this when I am dropping the mag and getting ready to empty the chamber.

Dirk, you answered your question in your original post, it is caused by the top round in the mag moving forward slightly after chambering a round, the bullet nose gets caught on the feed ramp when you remove the mag, causing it to flip upwards and out of the mag, this is very common when performing a tactical reload and no cause for concern at all.....

Not to worry as others have said...most of my autos have at one time or another stripped the "on deck" round when pulling a loaded mag. My PPK/S does it every time.
