Welcome and Nice gun! Look for posts by member ENH; he has one with Spegel grips and some pics with a FIST holster, I believe. You could also check into Ahrends, Eagle, or Grashorn for boot grips. You might try Hogues, as well. For holsters, there are many choices depending on your purpose and/or level of concealment/comfort. Try LOBO, Galco, or maybe Don Hume. I believe there is list of grip makers on this site somewhere . . . here is an image of it (don't know if it will be legible) Happy Shooting with your new .44. If I may be so bold, how much did you have fork over for it?

Spegel's are available from Lightning Arms Sports They will email pictures of what they have in stock for you to choose from. Pricey but worth the cost.

Welcome to the forum, if this is your first S&W beware they are addictive!! How do you like the sights, and is there any adjustment for those? So how does it shoot??

Speed loader is HKS CA 44 and they are still availible. Originally made for the Charter Arms Bulldog I believe.

just got back from range and it is a very nice revolver(now i just need more ammo) i went through a box of black hills and one of silver-tips
ill use the silver-tips for a carry round
love the sights and the trigger
but i have to order new grips(to big for me)i like the wood ones so ill order some tonight

If you don't reload, look at Attention (Georga Arms) for ammo. 44 special loaded with 200gr Gold Dots is very good ammo and reasonable for full power loads. They also have cowboy loads that are a hoot to shoot if you don't mind cleaning lead.

396 Frame Size

paulgl26: Is the 396NG an L-Frame or N-Frame?

The x96 guns are all L-frames. The cylinders hold five .44 rounds as opposed to six in the N-frames.

I have a 296 and a 696. I think I will have a Night Guard one of these days.

I had to do a bit of shopping to find a holster for my 325NG that would work for me. 2.5" N frames are not the most common revolver around. As yours is an L frame, you should have a larger selection.

I settled on two different holsters: a Mernickle Gunleather PS6DA OWB and a Milt Sparks Summer Special IWB. Both are excellent as far as fit and workmanship go.

The Mernickle was delivered in about five weeks. The Summer Special took six months almost to the day, but they made the long delivery time clear from the beginning.

The Mernickle is one of the few dual position holsters I've owned that works equally well strong side or cross draw. Cross draw might not be the best choice for every day carry but works well on long road trips. The Summer Special is a classic and now that I own one, I see why: comfort.

Though I haven't tried one yet, several of the IDPA guys at my club are using holsters from Lobo, and I think I will try one of those next. They look very good.
