S & W 41 and firing / trigger problem

have purchased a mint 41 .22lr.

I have fired about 1000 rounds of CCI std velocity and some green tag.

The gun has just started to only fire on the second trigger pull every two or three shots.

I clean it after use.

The trigger stop is back all the way off.

The trigger seems to have a lot of pre take up slack before it takes up and fires very..VERY close to the back of the trigger guard.

Any thoughts please...I have not done a full strip down yet.

When my 41, which has been shot a great deal, starts to have a problem related to hammer,sear disconnector operation, I field strip the gun and remove the grips. I run hot water thru the gun's internals to remove any gunk buildup. I follow with some boiling water which quickly evaporates and then lubricate. This may not solve your problem, but it won't hurt anything.

Sound like i should put the gun in the dishwasher on sanitize...is this really safe????

No. prolonged exposure to hot water and dishwasher soap will remove all oil film. You are likely to see some cosmetic rust stains on the bluing when it comes out of the dishwasher.

Rinsing off with hot water and boiling water for a few seconds is another thing. Using a water displacing oil (WD-40, CLP, etc) will protect the bluing and leave it looking like new. That is a standard routine for blackpowder shooters that need to clean the BP residue off after each firing session.

Sounds to me like you may have some issues with the disconnect. When it is functioning properly you should feel the trigger engage as you release it after firing. It may just need a little cleaning, I don't remember the exact location of the disconnect bar but I believe it is located near the top of the frame and it should move with the trigger. The problem sometimes happens when the bar, either from dirt or a weak spring, does not pop up and engage the sear. There could also be a problem if the trigger is not releasing completely, also possibly from crud in the mechanism and also associated with the disconnect function. I hope this helps,

yep you are right..the trigger bar was not moving up every time..it was slightly binding on the side of the sear...

I also think the spring was bit weak..

All seem fine now....thanks to all of you for your input.
