I have a S&W 45 acp Model 4526 (with decocker). I have been told that it is rare that S&W only made a few. I have not been able to find out any info on it. If you have any info on it or can tell me where I can get some info that would be very helpful. Thanks Theo

When they made the 1076 with the "Sig-style" decocking lever for the FBI they decided to offer it on other models as well. This is offen refered to the "Gun of The Week" period at S&W. The 1076 and 4576 are probably the most popular, most were built in '91 with all stopped being built by '93.

The Standard Catalog of Smith and Wesson (SCSW) will have pretty much all the available information about your pistol that's in writing.

I can tell you that your pistol was probably built circa 1993 or so (it may have been a little earlier; it WAS almost 20 years ago and I was sort of there). At this time S&W went through a period known as the "gun of the week" when they literally had 40 different models announced during the year.

They actually had a wheel looking device where you could "look up" a model number AKA "the whiz wheel":

The Gun Zone -- S&W Whiz Wheel

"Rare" IMHO is a relative term. I thought at the time they might have made as many as 2000 of each special model, but I really don't know now.

I will point out there was a recall on the decoker models (all the ones with 2 or 3 as the third digit in the model number). There should be two dots stamped under the decocker lever if the work has been performed.

I hope this helps,

Charlie

I believe they made 1300 of the 1026 which is the same gun in 10 MM, I don't know how many of the 45's were made.

 Mine does not have two dots under the decocker. How do I find out about the recall?

You might want to call S&W customer service (I'm sure the number will be on their website).

Have your model serial number ready.

They have been most helpful on the few ocassions I have called.

I just call there customer service and there is a recall on the decocker so they are sending me a shipping label.

Pics or it didn't happen!

Seriously, I'd like to see a picture of your pistol if you don't mind sharing.
