S&W 45 Cal. Model 1950 Information Needed

Thanks for all the input everyone.I plan to sell this,so i think i am going to leave it up to the next owner to decide if they want to fix the sight or just leave it alone.I hope it can be repaired without having to re-blue the barrel? This revolver really is in great shape except for the sight blade.Do you think asking $1,950.00 for it is out of line? I will also trade it for a original Colt or Remington Rand 1911 in case anyone is interested.

I just wanted to get opinions if my asking price of $1,950.00 for this revolver will be out of line when i list it for sale?

Buff quoted the Standard Catalog of S&W at $1500 for one in very good condition. Yours is in very good condition, except the sight has been cut, so it no longer qualifies for that price point. It is your gun an you can ask what you like, but the published data would suggest that price $1950 is too high. Put it out there and see what kind of response you get. You can always lower the price if it doesn't sell in a couple weeks.

Unfortunately most collectors willing to pay big bucks want unmolested perfect guns.

Though in good condition this gun has lost most of its appeal to collectors because of the sight.

I'm sorry to say that this scarce gun has probably entered the "shooter" category. IMHO

To patch up the sight would most definitely NOT restore this to a collector grade - only restore its accuracy. In fact - messing with the barrel any further will only reduce its value even more.

I would have a hard time believing this gun would bring more than $1000.00 and that's only if it had numbers matching grips - less if not :(

I hope I'm wrong.

Best wishes!!!

I'll second the vote for B-B-Que project gun, it would be a dazzler with a pair of ivorys or excellent stag grips. I'm into this short legged Brazilian baby for less than $600 and I love it. The Wondersight did "Wonders" for the sight adjustment and its a blast to carry.

It is very unfortunate that someone messed with the front sight blade, I know some very skilled welders that could probably tig that up and restore to near perfection, a skilled eye could still pick up the change...unskilled would not.
