Hi there,

Any 4566 fans out there?

This one is my first Smith semi-auto. But, I am impressed by it.

The night sights are worn out, so I ordered XS big dots. I should see the new sights next week.

Got a 4506 today

Looking for manual, assembly/disassembly gouge...came with no book. Looks good, but i need the manual :-(
any thoughts? Thx steve:o

Picked up a NIB 4566TSW a couple months ago, and with the Maine winter still haven't shot it, but you can count me in as a fan. Would love to see pics of the gun as well as the Big Dot sights.

88usnret, if you contact S&W they will send you a copy of the Manual for free. If you do a search on YouTube, I bet you can find a detailed video for field stripping the 4506, is the same for most any S&W.

As soon as I get the Big Dots on, I'll post pics.

As far as the Manual goes, I'll second that. Just e mail, or call S&W. They'll send it out for free. I found a site on the net that had all the manuals, but the downloads weren't as easy to read as they should have been. So, I just called S&W for this manual.

The entire 45XX line has many fans here, they are great weapons. I just picked up my new 4516, can't wait to get it to the range.:D

I'm interested in XS Big Dots also, they look great.

You can download a basic owners manual for 3rd generation S&W semi-autos here.

I generally prefer Sigs and 1911 semi-autos. When I decided to supplement my 1911s with a TDA range gun, I did a LOT of research and comparison. My first inclination was to buy a Sig P220ST, but the S&W 4566 matched it in every significant respect... except price. My 4566TSW is rock solid and more accurate than I am able to shoot.

Welcome to the Forum! I am a big fan of the 4566. Mine was shipped to the Rome, NY P.D. originally (used very little), and is a fine .45. I've never experienced a malfunction with it (typical of S&W 3rd gen guns), fed it 3 different bullet profiles in the same magazine once - and the gun never noticed. The guns is certainly more accurate than I am. I can keep all shots within a silver dollar sized circle at 10 yds. - with trifocals. It is heavy, and you have to decide what you want it for .... but I consider it more reliable than my various 1911 platform .45s. I blacked out my rear white night-sight dots and painted white over my front one. Works just fine.

I bought my 4566TSW last December though an auction site and was able to pick it up just before Christmas.

The previous owner had Trijicon night sights on it, but I hated them. They were just okay for bright light and no-light, but almost invisible in low-light. So I replaced the sights with XS 24/7 Big Dot sights and I love them. The only problem is that the front sight sometimes snags in my holster, so I need to practice my draw stroke more so I can clear the holster every time.

Oh, and while I had the rear sight off, I removed the little component that activates the magazine safety. Now it will fire even if there's no magazine inserted.

I had a 645 about 14 years ago and liked it, but I like the 4566 even better.

My First

My first S&W .45 was the 4566. I still own it and I shoot it regularly. I has to be one of my favorite guns of all time. I often carry it ITWB. It's hard to beat the 3rd gen .45s.

I kinda sorta have a 4566.

Month ago or so I was browsing through Gunbroker and ran across a NOS complete slide for a 4566. Starting bid was $100.00 and no reserve.

Why not?

Got it for the starting bid.

Now what?

Turns out Midway had a closeout on a NOS 4566 barrel. $68.86.

Bought the last one.

A quick call to S&W and recoil spring and guide ordered.

PANIC?

Not sure if barrel and slide are the same revision!

Both arrive and they're a match. (Early narrow hood.)

So....For less than $200.00 my 4506 is now a 4566 as well.

I love it when a plan comes together.

PS those NOS parts retail out at over $400.00

4566TSW is an awsome pistol!

I have had my NIB 4566TSW for just about a year now and love the gun. I use it for my concealed weapon in a Galco strongside holster. It is a very accurate gun - easy at 15 yds or less - a bit more challenging at 25 yds but I'm getting better. Before I fired it I was worried about the recoil but that has proven to be pretty much a non-issue. Mine only has decocking and a combat trigger so those took a bit to get used to but now I am just fine with it.

Fepper, What model# Galco holster are you carrying the 4566TSW in? I have one with a rail that I picked up a couple months ago, and haven't seen much for holster options.

The 4566 was my last duty weapon and given to me at retirement. I'm a 1911 fan and rarely even think about the 4566, but they were good guns. I had previously, in another assignment carried the CS45, and never cared for the un-natural feeling grip and frame. Went to the 4566 before retirement since I knew that's what would be given out.
My old department has just now switched to the M&P .45. (wish I had gotten one of those...)
You'll enjoy it. Good luck.

Did you get your sights yet? How did installation go for you?
