I was at the range a week ago with some buddies of mine. I decided to bring my 459 (it's been years since it last fired a round). I won't be mentioning the brands of firearms they had with them but they experienced all sorts of problems from failure to feed, failure to fire, to failure to eject. Some had a couple of problems and some would be plagued with all sorts of concerns. My old 459 fired all 300 9mm bullets hit the target with no problems. It made me really think how valuable my S&W is. A true life saver. Dad bought it brand new around the late 80s and now I have it and it still is as reliable as can be. I left the range with my head held high. I just thought I would share.

Oops, I just realized I should have posted this on another section (semi-auto). So sorry.

Do the Metro Arms - out of Manila - 1911s seem to work okay? They're developing a following of sorts here in the States. I somehow ended up with one new in the box myself.

Definitely honest wear on that gun and nice to see it still going strong. I have an old square guard 5903 (early 90s I suppose) that I shot a few weeks ago. It too had been sitting. Worked great. The MecGar 17rd mags I'd gotten for it worked well too.

I bought a 459 new in the box in 1982, was my first centerfire semi auto. It was plenty accurate and reliable with 115 grain FMJ, which was about the only ammo I ever used in it. But the ergonomics were awful, felt like holding a piece of 2x4. After I got into law enforcement I carried on duty a short while and finally decided to trade it off on the newer, hot wonder 9mm of the day . . . a Beretta 92

They have very good 1911s from what I've heard. They have a store here in Makati City, Metro Manila. From what I was told the guns' parts are well made and don't have the rough edges that some guns made here have. I have no idea about the price here but you made me curious enough to plan a visit to their store in the near future. Maybe even get some pictures of what they are offering locally :)

True. I often wished that there would be more angle/curve in the grip. It wouldn't really help in my case to put rubber grips into it because it would just thicken it some more. But I guess this old reliable is more useful to me than most failure-magnet guns out there today.
