Hi all,
I just bought a used 460XVR PC with a 3.5" barrel. I haven't shot it yet but I've shot my buddy's 460ES... I like the quality of the PC edition but they used a special tear drop hammer on this model.... It looks great and I'm no wimp, but I'm fairly certain one trip to the range with this and I won't be able to count to 5 on one hand.... The hammer is sharp and pointed almost like it was rough cut at the factory and never deburred. Has anyone else had this? Does S&W make a wide hammer? I hate to send it back to S&W as it seems to take forever for them to turn it around.

I had that gun and never got bit. Nice gun. Give her a try first. Gloves are nice with all of these big girls.

Thanks yfdcap.. It's not getting bit, it's cocking it in single action... It's REALLY sharp. I guess I could use gloves... I have an Model 25-5 with a wide hammer on it. Considering this isn't really a practical carry gun you'd think they'd go for comfort over reducing the snag factor..... What about dressing it was some emery cloth or a stone?

Virtually every PC revolver I've bought, with the tear drop hammer, has that same problem.

I use a very fine file to smooth out the edges where you cock it.

Even if it wasn't for that I still dislike their shape.

.

My 460/3.5" hammer also has a casting line that has autographed the firing pin.
Saw the same issue with a 500 range rental sitting below a sign that read.... supervised use only.

Has anyone filed that off?
Crocus cloth might work to make the hammer less aggressive..... haven't smoothed ours yet.

Definitely do that. I stone them and dress them with light sand paper. Do this on all my new Smiths.
